“There are thousands of writers out there. Why would anyone pay you for writing?” My dad said without a change in his expression.

I had just told him that I’ll start writing as a Freelancer and that my clients will pay me for writing for them.

I was upset…

Today, I’m grateful.

It has become my mantra for writing better copy and content.

And now I’m sharing this with you.

But first, let’s talk about the Writers’ Ego.

What Exactly Is The Writers’ Ego?

If you are anyone like me, chances are that you’ve experienced the Writers’ Ego at some point in time. It’s the time when you start thinking a little highly of yourself as a writer. Not your fault, don’t worry. Happens to the majority of amateur writers.

When one of my blogs went viral a year ago, I started to think a little too highly of myself. Several posts later, I was like, “I have started to gain some popularity. People are reading my blogs. They love it. They know me now. Maybe they’ll read anything that I write.”

And so I became a little careless about my stories and posts. My five minutes of break extended to an hour. Sometimes even more. I‘d lose my flow of working on my blogs and started to pay less attention to editing my drafts.

Not gonna lie. Within just two months I noticed a 50% decrease in traffic.

It was a heartbreaking moment for me. It all happened because I had developed Ego. The Writers’ Ego.

Can you think of a relatable moment?

How to get rid of it once and for all?

Read more books. Listen to Podcasts. Gain knowledge about writing and human emotions from everywhere you can. You’ll realize after some time that you can never know enough.

I learned that I was a “Nobody” when I started reading bestselling books on writing.

My Dad’s Excellent Advice That Helps Me Write Better Every time!

It wasn’t meant to be a piece of advice. But it turned out to be one. An excellent one indeed.

So, while editing your draft, remember to always ask yourself this: Why would someone care to read my copy? They’ve got some really important stuff to work on. And why would anyone prefer reading my post to watching a Thriller?

That will force your brain to come up with new ideas for making your content much more interesting. Take note of all those ideas, and incorporate the best ones in your content.

There you go. You’ve shattered the Writers’ Ego completely.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading!

Have a great day ahead.
